deybruyar = débrouillard

So, what the hell is Deybruyar?

Founder, Erin Sweeney, may just be the definition of a serial generalist. A chameleon of sorts.

As a young girl, she wanted to be an Olympic Softball Player or an Interior Designer. Fast forward and she ended up playing softball at Illinois Wesleyan University & in their business school. Good grades and an overachieving resume landed her a sales management job right out of school.

She was craving to be in a creative community, but didn’t know what that looked like professionally. Through her network, she was poached into advertising - and she began to uncover the world of creativity as a living. Even in the seemingly sexy world of advertising, E never really felt at home. She wasn’t considered a Creative, or an Account Lead, or a Strategist.

She was the girl that could do a little bit of this, or a little bit of that. She knew she could do it all. And if she couldn’t yet, she would find a way.

As many stories go in Corporate America, Erin was pushed through to the burnout point of questioning, “What would it look like if I worked this hard for myself?”. In 2023, Erin decided to leave her tenure at WPP to take a bet on herself, and to work with people and brands on a mission to be good and do good. She calls this choosing happiness.

With support of Erin’s family, friends & mentors - and finally, the belief in herself - she took a bet on herself.

Erin’s mother, Laurie (affectionately referred to as L-Dawg), sent E a text one day saying “I think I found what you are". And it was the definition of Debrouillard, a French word defined as “skilled at adapting to any situation; resourceful.” And in that moment, Erin knew the name of her first company. She spells it Deybruyar, in order to be resourceful and understand that most won’t be able to pronounce Debrouillard. Always a step ahead.

Welcome to Deybruyar. The company so creatively resourceful that we even made easy for you to pronounce.

Where Erin Sweeney is paying forward the lessons, mentorship and stories she received across her life to build a career of her own.
